ROACHES ROACHES ROACHES - My family was recently evacuated, due to Hurricane Irma, and we needed desperately to find lodging until the storm passed. I booked two nights at the Motel 6 # 4513 in Lumberton NC. I cannot even begin to explain the appearance of the building or the “clientele” that were there. Upon check in, the front desk clerk did not acknowledge me while she was on the phone speaking with someone about a personal matter, the phone conversation lasted at least 4 minutes. When I was finally given a key to the room, I had to walk past several individuals hanging outside smoking pot and even passed a few rooms with the doors open, that you could also smell the aroma of pot coming from. Once in our room we pulled off our shoes to relax, after an exhausting drive in traffic with other evacuees, only to find that the floor was so gritty and sticky that our feet were black on the bottom. I had my 11 month old granddaughter with us and could not place her on the floor due to the filth. After a while we started noticing roaches around the air condition unit and throughout the night we watched them crawl up the walls and across the TV screen. This room was completely infested with roaches, we spent more time chasing and killing roaches than we did relaxing. I spoke with another person a few rooms down from ours and she stated that her family was experiencing the same problem.
I was so scared! It was the dirtiest motel I have ever seen, stayed there for 5 minutes and left. There were bugs everywhere and the dirtiest sheets. People were outside of the door screaming. The car next to us got broken into. I couldn't do it. I always stay at motel 6 because it's always so clean. After driving 10 hours it was better to drive another 10 then to stay there.
The hotel is older, but they have done a good job of updating. Other than highway noise I slept pretty good. Overall I would stay again.
The girls at the front desk are AMAZING! We had to evacuate our home due to hurricane Irma. Our stress levels were high. We had 3 large dogs and my in-laws with us. Not knowing if we were going to have a home to go home to we were all depressed and worried. The day we arrived Kristy (asst. Manager) made us feel welcome, she was friendly and kind and made us feel welcomed. The other girls at the front desk were all so sweet and nice and asked every day how we were and if there was anything they could do. They all went way above the call of duty. They are all an asset to your company. We would definitely stay there again.
First time I've written a review of a place I've never stayed at. But I know there are travelers who don't know the area. I'm a local guide with Google here in Lumberton and strongly urge to find a different motel to stay at. Lots of locals stay here which produces much crime. This past month there was another shooting in one of the rooms. Beware if you do stay here, until management can clean it up.
We were thankful to be able to find a place to stay during our evacuation, but I cannot say that it was pleasant or that we got any rest. We were afraid to sleep, because of the amount of roaches running around, we were afraid that our vehicles might get broken into, and we were not at ease with our safety period. This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and you can imagine how distraught and stressed we were already, having to flee our homes, but to end up staying in a hotel that was in this condition was unacceptable.
I am not sure what good, if any, that my complaint will make. I would hope that this is not the norm for a Motel 6 and that action is taken to remedy the issues at this particular property.
The next morning I spoke with housekeeping and asked if I could get a mop to clean the floor with and she stated that they don’t use a wet mop. She gave me a dry mop and some 409 to squirt on the floor! I’m sorry, but this hotel allows pets and I’m not sure who cleans up behind their pet, but I am sure that peoples pets will have accidents and all they are doing is squirting some cleaner on the floor and pushing it around with a dry mop. If I had to take a guess, I would say that 70% of the guests in this hotel appear to be “frequent guests”. We witnessed a drug deal in the back parking lot and a man staying in the room next to us stated that the owner had already been in trouble for allowing drug activity to take place here on a constant basis.
I spoke with the desk clerk and told her about the roach problem and she simply stated “we spray” and never even made eye contact. I even mentioned the people all standing around smoking pot and she stated “ there’s not much we can do about that”.
